听力材料及答案
(Text 1)
M: The Golden Lion sounds like a good place to eat in.
W: OK. Let’s go there. I hear they have good service.
(Text 2)
W: I don’t have to go shopping by car now. The shopping center is within walking distance.
M: Well, you’re lucky. I still go by car. The nearest store I can go to is about two miles away.
(Text 3)
W: Do you like this coat, or shall I take the blue one?
M: I like both of them, but I think the blue one fits you better.
W: OK. I’ll get the blue one. It’s less expensive anyway.
(Text 4)
W: What is that you are listening to? It is too noisy. I can’t concentrate on my work.
M: No problem. I can switch over to something lighter.
(Text 5)
M: Hey, Mom. I’m thinking of hitch-hiking around Europe this summer. What do you think?
W: Hitch-hiking? That sounds dangerous! You shouldn’t go by yourself. You ought to go with a friend.
M: Yes, I have thought of that.
(Text 6)
W: Excuse me, but I think you’ve made a wrong turn. You were supposed to turn left on Wilson Boulevard.
M: Oh, I am sorry. Didn’t you say 1323 Wilson?
W: No, 3023. It is OK though. You don’t have to take me there. I can walk from here.
M: Why don’t I just make a U-turn there? It’s a one-way street; see the sign up ahead. Maybe if I turn left here, I can come down the next street.
W: We can’t do that during rush hour really, though it won’t be much trouble. Sometimes one can wait 30 minutes for a taxi, so I’m happy to get this close.
M: 30 minutes! I’ve been riding around all day looking for passengers.
(Text 7)
W: What’s the matter, Bill? You look kind of pale.
M: Oh, I’m just tired.
W: Why?
M: Well, I’ve been working until around ten every night this week.
W: You should go home at quitting time today and take it easy.
M: Yes. I think I will.
W: That’s good. Say, how’s your brother?
M: He’s fine, but he is awfully busy. He went to the States on a business trip two weeks ago.
W: Oh, really? Is he back yet?
M: No, he won’t come back for several more weeks.
W: Wow! He must have a lot to do there.
M: Yes, he does.
W: I want to be sure of the time because I’m going to meet a friend at five o’clock sharp.
M: Well, my watch says 4:30, and that time should be right. I set it with the radio yesterday.
W: Good.
(Text 8)
W: Excuse me!
M: Yes?
W: I’m afraid I am lost. I’m looking for the East Town Shopping Mall.
M: Did you say the Town Hall?
W: No. The East Town Mall.
M: The East Mall? You are lost! That isn’t anywhere near here! The East Town Mall is over near the airport.
W: I’m not near the airport now?
M: Oh, no! You are on the other side of town. Here is what you should do. Turn around and drive two or three miles down this street. When you see a big hospital on your right, turn left. That’s Bloomfield Avenue. Are you following me?
W: Yes, I think so.
M: OK. Then drive along Bloomfield Avenue and you’ll see the airport on the right and the mall is on the left. Okay?
W: Yes, thanks very much.
M: Good luck!
(Text 9)
W: Now, David, what do you like best about being a football star?
M: Well, I love to hear the cheering when I’m playing, especially when I score a goal. And, of course, the pay is good. But you know, the most important thing in football is teamwork. So I must thank all my teammates.
W: Can you tell us something about your training?
M: Well, we train very hard, especially before a big game. The team has to stay together on the road—sometimes for weeks—and I find it very boring.
W: Do you get nervous?
M: Before the game, yes, but not during it.
W: Are you worried about tomorrow’s game?
M: No. Even if we lose we’ll probably still get the cup. You see, we scored more goals than Northern City, so they’ll have to win by at least four goals if they want the cup. I don’t think they can do it.
W: Thank you and good luck tomorrow.
(Text 10)
If you don’t have any plans for your next vacation, how about going to an overseas English Language School, for example, in the USA or the UK? Many schools offer short courses for students of all ages, from seven to seventy years old! There are schools in small country towns, on college campuses, or in the middle of the city.
Foreign students can stay in school buildings or with local families. Living with a family can be fun and can really help you learn. Just think—you’ll get at least two hours a day having dinners and conversations with native English speakers!
Classes are usually small, with 8 to 10 students. On most afternoons you’ll have a choice of swimming, soccer or other outdoor games. The schools also arrange activities like day trips to museums and amusement parks. You’ll have a chance to improve your English and have fun at the same time!
