It is expensive to fly first-class.
Laura has expensive taste.
too expensive 太贵的
be far too expensive 太贵
The price is too high.
The price is too steep.
Is it because the housing prices are so high?
It's a little over priced.
high-priced cigars(昂贵雪茄)
又或者用pricey(口语用法)/dear(英式口语)/costly(有既昂贵又浪费之义)等形容词替换high-priced也是很OK的,下面还会说到der。
②
It’ll cost you.
Something costs a lot.
Something doesn’t come cheap.
The iPhone 8 is fantabulous, but it’ll cost you.
③
Something costs a fortune /bomb /bundle.
That costs a bomb.
=That is too expensive.
④
It costs me an arm and a leg.
an arm and a leg = cost sb. a lot of money
That car must have cost her an arm and a leg.
It cost an arm and a leg to buy even a small apartment these days.
⑤
I can’t afford it.
⑥
What a rip-off!
That's a rip-off.
=That is not worth the price.
400 dollars for a T-shirt. What a rip-off!
You must have gotten ripped-off.
⑦
sth is so pricey
That restaurant is a bit too pricey for me. I prefer somewhere a bit more affordable.
The dinner was a bit pricey but the food was just amazing.
I wasn’t expecting a haircut to be so pricey. It came to 150 pounds, unbelievable.
Price is unfavorable and exorbitant.
Many local taxi drivers charge extortionate rates.
Moving house would be prohibitively expensive.
They had to buy everything at inflated prices at the ranch shop.
A steep increase in house prices.
⑨
It’s a daylight robbery.
$20 for a bowl of ramen? That’s just highway robbery/daylight robbery!
Three pounds for two sandwiches? It's daylight robbery!
The food was good but it was dear.
Tickets to that concert are quite dear.
I bought some new boots, they are very beautiful but quite dear.
⑪
Splashing out = Spending a lot of money
Can you afford to splash out a little?
She doesn't mind splashing out.
⑫
something is priced out of the market.
